Landlady and Landlord Andy and Hal respectively have their own views on what a pub should be. "First and foremost, it's about the community, and knowing what our regulars would like to have more of, so they can really enjoy their time with us. We place a lot of emphasis on the quality of our food". To be fair, Andy and Hal do already know a bit about running a pub and serving great food. They ran the Barn Bistro just across the road for 10 years, taking over The Masons Arms in January 2021. "We didn't have to move our things too far!" Says Andy with a wry smile. "We love the village, and wanted to stay here. There's enough room for both pubs, as we each offer a different type of experience."

Contrary to what you've read for years, it doesn't always rain in the Lake District. It does always rain in Manchester though. Everyone knows that. But when the wind and the rain does blow up here, there's nothing better for the average saddle sore cyclist or leg weary rambler than a hot pie or a pasty washed down with one of our superb ales or lagers. Long as you don't drip puddles all over our seats, trample all over our farmers land, or say "It always rains in the Lake District" you'll be more than welcome.

WELCOME TO THE

So a bit about the pub itself . The Masons Arms has two separate bars. It was built, with reclaimed ships' timbers in its structure, and dates back to 1865. It was originally a Boot and shoe makers, these days, the only place you would find a pair of decent boots is on some of our customers feet..(but not all...). WE ARE DOG FRIENDLY! For those who like to know about such things, Meat and Poultry is locally sourced from a traditional family butcher and fish is fresh from Gilcrux Springs trout farm. I'm afraid, although it should definitely come equipped with one, there is no evidence of a ghost as yet. Lots of spirits, but alas no clanking chains, no ghostly wailing, and the only bells you'll hear are those of last orders. Shame, really, although stories of the ghost of a bootmaker or two would only be looked on as complete cobblers. That unfortunately friends, is the cynical world we live in.

Oh the excitement of it all! Sometimes our prizes are big...sometimes they're small but its the shouting out of 'Here!' or 'Aye!' or even 'Me!' when you win that makes it all so worthwhile. Come and make friends with other Bingo wings on the first Tuesday of every month!

It's a bar, with a pool facility!..and  It can get heated sometimes! Just like being on the Costa

Obviously these beers come and go as and when we can get them. But rest assured our Landlord only gets the best of the bunch available after a serious 'try before we buy' policy.
